Staff with the Vancouver Aquarium’s Marine Mammal Rescue Centre released seven rescued seal pups into Burrard Inlet Wednesday from Cates Park in North Vancouver.

“It’s a big day for them,” said Aquarium veterinarian Dr. Martin Haulena. “This is the end of a lot of work.”

Young pups often become separated from their mothers and unable to fend for themselves.

When possible, such pups are transferred to the Vancouver Aquarium Rescue Centre. This hospital for sick, injured or orphaned marine mammals nurses the pups back to health while preparing them for a return to the wild.
