North Carolina : Teen bitten by shark on Outer Banks, park service says

North Carolina teen bitten by shark in serious condition.

For the second time in two days, someone was bitten by a shark off the Outer Banks.

The attack Saturday involved an 18-year-old who was in the water near Rodanthe.

Carol Flynn said Sunday the teenager arrived at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, on Saturday in critical condition. Flynn says he was in serious condition on Sunday.

The shark attack was the second in as many days on the Outer Banks and the sixth in the past two weeks along the coast of North Carolina and South Carolina.

Flynn said the man was 18. The National Park Service described him Saturday as 17.

The park service said on its Facebook page that the teen suffered injuries to his right calf, buttocks and both hands while swimming with others.

On Saturday, the National Park Service received a report from the Dare County Sheriff’s Office that EMS units were responding to an injured person on the beach near Waves.

Ocean Rescue Squad paramedics and NPS Rangers responded to the scene and found a teenage male who had sustained injuries from a shark.

He was swimming with several others when the attack occurred, but no other swimmers were injured.

A 47-year-old man was bitten Friday when he was swimming in Avon. He received injuries to his right leg and lower back.
