Giant 200-year-old salamander found hiding in China cave “Video”

An incredibly rare giant salamander was found recently near the mouth of a cave in Chongqing in southwestern China.

The giant salamander is about 1.4m in length and weighs 52kg but that isn’t exceptionally big for a giant salamander, which is the largest known species of amphibian.

Of course the local humans in their infinite wisdom decided to remove this giant salamander, who had flourished for two centuries in a cave, put it in a pool and run a number of tests on it.

Purportedly this is for its own well-being because the species is critically-endangered.

Over the past half-century, the population has declined about 80 per cent as a result of the destruction of the giant salamander’s habitat and poaching attempts.
