Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent has cinema magic

Angelina Jolie’s “Maleficent” held its spell on moviegoers last weekend, flying past the $500 million mark to set a new record for the actress.

Maleficent has been in theaters for four weeks in the United States, and it hauled in an additional $13 million this weekend domestically; Maleficent also passed Disney’s similarly styled Oz the Great and Powerful, which grossed $493.3 million worldwide back in 2013.

The film’s overall gross will likely get substantially higher; Maleficent has yet to open in Japan.
