Vince Li : Man behind bus beheading to be allowed to live in group home

The man who beheaded Tim McLean on a Greyhound bus in 2008 is getting permission to move to a group home, pending hospital approval.

Vince Li, who had untreated schizophrenia, was found not criminally responsible for the 2008 stabbing, beheading and cannibalization of 22-year old Timothy McLean on a Greyhound bus headed to Winnipeg, Man.

McLean’s parents released the letter they received from the Manitoba Review Board laying out the decision, which said Li had been granted “overnight passes to [a Level V group home in the community] for the purpose of a gradual transition to reside there” and “an extended pass to [a Level V group home in the community],” conditional on adherence to the home’s rules.

Level 5 group homes have 24/7 staff, as well as a curfew to which residents must adhere.

Li has been at the Health Sciences Centre since February, when the review board gave him increased freedoms, including unsupervised community day passes. For the seven years prior, he was at Manitoba’s Selkirk Mental Health Centre.

A “Justice for Tim McLean” rally is planned for Saturday afternoon in front of the Manitoba legislature.

    1. Sick or not sick the filth should be locked up for good, if they had balls he would have been put down long ago.

    2. Shame on this country, shame on this system, and shame on immigration and his sponsor who let him come to Canada. This man was sponsored by someone who should be held accountable if he can’t due to his mental condition, someone let him come here and approved his papers without a proper screening as he had no higher education or anything to make him of value (all his immigration did was take a job away from a working class person who already resides here). I don’t really care what is broken with him, he killed a poor young man because he has a mental problem which to me seems to be the case with anyone who kills another human being in such an awful manner. With all the time and money we are now spending on this useless person it would have been a lot cheaper and served more justice to just put a 2$ bullet in his head and call it a day. This world has 8 billion people in it and we can’t save them all, some are just broken and need to go.
