Probe ordered into Quebec tear-gas shooting, Report

A probe into the tear-gas shooting of a protester that left her with facial injuries has been ordered by Quebec’s police ethics commissioner.

Naomie Tremblay-Trudeau was shot at point-blank range while taking part in an anti-austerity demonstration outside the legislature in Quebec City last week.

“The commissioner has designated an investigator who must, except in the case of exceptional circumstances beyond their control, submit a final report within 180 days,” said a release issued by the police ethics commissioner’s office.

Students in Quebec City and Montreal have been involved in several scuffles with police in recent days as they protest government austerity measures.
