A 16-year-old boy has died after being pulled from the waters at a beach in Barrie Friday evening, police have confirmed.

Barrie Police say they were called to the beach just after 6 p.m. on Friday night and along with paramedics and fire units initiated a search for the 16-year-old. The police marine unit located the boy approximately 30 to 34 feet below the waterline just outside the designated swimming area.

He was taken to local hospital absent vital signs where he was eventually pronounced dead.

Police have not released his name. They say he was visiting the city from outside the country.

Foul play is not suspected.
