The suspect believed responsible for shooting and killing a Parliament Hill soldier Wednesday was convicted in relation to a 2011 robbery that took place in Vancouver.
Michael Jopseph Zehaf-Bibeau, 32, was charged with a robbery that took place in Vancouver on Dec. 16, 2011, court records show.
He pleaded guilty in February 2012 in Vancouver Provincial Court to the lesser included offence of uttering threats and was sentenced to just a day in jail. He was credited with more than two months in pre-trial custody.
Court documents show that Zehaf-Bibeau was sent for a psychiatric evaluation, but found fit to stand trial.
He was killed in a shoot-out in the lobby of the parliament buildings. Very little is known so far about his history.
Zehaf-Bibeau also has a criminal record for drug offences in Montreal dating back a decade.
Vancouver Police wouldn’t release details of the Dec. 2011 investigation that led to the charge here because of the on-going investigation in Ottawa.
