Membertou man faces charges after alleged threats

A 35-year-old Membertou man will appear in Sydney Provincial Court today to face charges for threatening another man during the Wally Bernard Memorial Hockey Tournament.

Cape Breton Regional Police arrested Jonathan Lindsay Paul, 35, during the Wally Bernard Memorial Native Youth Hockey Tournament.

Police were called to the Coxheath Recreation Centre Sunday afternoon to reports of a verbal dispute involving a man who had threatened to return with a firearm.

Police located and arrested the man outside the arena.

He was not in possession of a weapon at the time of his arrest.

Police later executed a search warrant on a Membertou home Sunday evening, where they seized a gun and ammunition.

Paul was charged with six counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

He was remanded to the Cape Breton Correctional Facility, pending the outcome of an appearance in Sydney provincial court on Monday.
