Mayor Dianne Watts seeks federal Tory nod in South Surrey

In what is perhaps a surprise to no one, Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts will be running for the federal Conservatives in South Surrey.

Watts says both the Liberals and the Tories wanted her to run but she said the Conservatives best represent her interests on domestic and international issues.

“Russia’s aggression towards the Ukraine. Syria, Iraq, Libya, and Afghanistan all of those pieces. Of course the conflict with Israel and Palestine. When you look at what is going like the downing of the two airliners as well as the kidnapping of young girls.”

She says, if elected, she will continue to champion Surrey and the city’s transit needs, including her pitch for three light rail lines.

“Should I be elected all of those pieces I certainly will continue to push for. I will be an advocate for the city of Surrey. And really looking at how we can ensure that a city, especially South of the Fraser where the growth is going to take place, how we can advantage the needs and the infrastructure.”

Watts describes herself as a small ‘C’ conservative.
