Innocent senior killed by stray bullet in Abbotsford

A 74-year-old Abbotsford resident is dead after being caught in the crossfire of a targeted shooting.

Constable Ian MacDonald says officers were responding to a shots fired call in the 3500-block of Promontory Court when they found a vehicle in a driveway which had been hit by several rounds.

“As we started to widen our search, we located a 74-year-old-man on the neighbouring property who had been struck. We called for the ambulance crew to move in but he died at the scene.”

MacDonald says it appears the man was just standing by a fence when a targeted shooting happened in the adjacent driveway.

He says several homes in the area have security cameras so it’s hoped that footage will help with a suspect description.

The victim’s name has not been released.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is taking over the case.

Anyone with information about this incident should call the IHIT Tip Line at 1-877-551-4448 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
