Hiva Alizadeh : Ottawa man pleads guilty in terrorism-related case

The ringleader of an Ottawa terror cell pleaded guilty Wednesday to terrorism offences under a deal that will see him sentenced to 24 years in prison.

Alizadeh was one of three men arrested in August of 2010 after an RCMP undercover investigation.

Police said they had turned up terrorist literature, videos and manuals, and electronic circuit boards to detonate homemade bombs.

Last month, London Ontario doctior Khurram Sher was found not guilty of facilitating terrorist activities, becoming the first person to be acquitted under Canada’s new terorrism laws.

In July, the third member, former Ottawa Hospital technician Misbahuddin Ahmed, was found guilty of two of three charges facing him.

Ahmed was convicted of conspiring to facilitate a terrorist activity and participatiing in the activities of a terrorist group, but acquitted of possessing explosives with intent to do harm.

His sentencing hearing resumes next month.
