Elijah March : Boy who wandered out into frigid Toronto weather has died (UPDATE)

A 3-year-old boy, found Thursday morning with vital signs absent after wandering away from an apartment overnight, has died in hospital.

Little Elijah left a north Toronto apartment dressed in boots, a shirt and a diaper in the middle of the night. He was caught on the buildings security camera at 4am. He was found six hours later in a backyard with no vital signs.

He was rushed to hospital but died early Thursday afternoon.

Toronto has been under an extreme cold warning with a windchill of minus 30 degrees.

Police say his family had woke up to find the boy gone with the front door left open. Police launched a massive search with officers on horseback, on foot and in a helicopter.
