Dangerous firearm issue in Slocan City, RCMP

Mounties are searching for a suspect who allegedly fired on police with a long rifle then fled into the forest in Slocan, B.C. Thursday afternoon.

Officers were at a call for a dispute on Slocan West Rd. near Gravel Pit Rd. shortly before 12:30 p.m. when a man is said to have fired a long rifle at them. Nobody was injured in the incident.

The suspect then disappeared into a forested area, resulting in a school and daycare being locked down and then evacuated, before police made the request that nobody exit their homes.

Const. Kris Clark said it’s expected the village-wide lockdown will remain in effect through the night or until the suspect is located.

After night set in, Mounties said they had a specific area of forest west of the village contained, where they believed the suspect was.

Homes in that area were evacuated and everyone else in town remained on lockdown.

“Considering that there is an armed suspect at large, we have to ask people to stay indoors — that’s for their own safety,” Clark said.

No further altercations with the suspect had occurred at press time, and no further details as to his identity was made available.

    1. Likely someone saw a genuine legal law abiding hunter and made a “gun call” on him…… to which the cops always show up in force with guns drawn.

Some folk don’t like having guns pointed at them, for some odd reason they see it as a threat to their life.

Im looking forward to more information on why this fellow would bother aiming a gun at cops in the first place.
