Charges laid in northeast hit and run, Police

A 70-year-old Calgary cab driver has been charged in a fatal hit-and-run that left a 16-year-old girl dead.

Stanislaw Maguder is now facing charges of hit-and-run causing death after a woman was found dead at the intersection of 16 Avenue NE and 5 Street NE.

Police say a combination of CCTV footage along with evidence from the scene led investigators to determine the woman was struck by a taxi.

CPS said GPS technology used by the taxi company assisted officers in identifying the suspect.

Calgary police are holding a press conference to update media on the incident this morning.
