Catherine Campbell: Body of Missing Truro Police Officer Found, man in custody

The body of Truro, N.S., police Const. Catherine Campbell, who had been missing since Sept. 10, has been found, and Halifax Regional Police are treating the death as a homicide.

Constable Catherine Campbell with the Truro Police Service was found dead in a wooded area east of Barrington Street at North Street in Halifax.

She was reported missing on Monday after failing to show up for work. Through investigation, it has been revealed that Campbell was last seen at a bar in downtown Halifax in the early morning hours of Friday, September 11th.

A 27-year-old Halifax man was arrested at 1:20 a.m. local time in Clayton Park and is currently being questioned by police.

During a media conference on Wednesday, Superintendent Jim Perron with the Criminal Investigation Division said officers are still exploring the relationship between Campbell and the suspect in custody.

“We believe they know each other, what we don’t know is for how long they’ve known each other for. That’s all part of the investigation which is on-going.”

At this time, investigators are not looking at any other suspects.

According to Perron, what happened to Campbell had nothing to do with her being a police officer.

“I have no details to suggest that and no details to suggest that her being a police officer had anything to do with what ultimately happened to her,” said Perron. “Catherine Campbell did nothing to cause what happened to her. Our focus is on what did happen and ensuring the person responsible is brought before the courts.”

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to contact police at 902-490-5016, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Tips can also be submitted at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca, or texting a tip – Tip 202 + your message to 274637.
