Federal officials are trying to confirm whether a 20-yearold man from Hamilton, Ont., was killed last week during clashes between Kurdish forces and Islamic State fighters in northern Syria.
The National Post reports, Mohamud disappeared two months ago, later phoning his mother to tell her he was with “the brothers in Syria.”
A few days ago, an online post surfaced with his picture, saying he had been killed in an ISIS raid on the Kurdish villages near the Turkish border.
Former high school classmates say the young man was involved in student council, and was outgoing, confident and hardworking.
