Canadian Forces soldier dies on duty at CFB Petawawa

Craftsman Kyle Sinclair, of 2 Service Battalion, died on Nov. 21, 2014 of wounds resulting from injuries inflicted during an incident yesterday at Garrison Petawawa, Ontario.

Sinclair, a member of the Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, was working normal duties when the incident happened, according to officials. No details on what exactly occurred were immediately available.

Sinclair enrolled with the Forces in December 2012 and was stationed in Petawawa in Spring 2013.

Prime Minister Harper issued a statement Saturday afternoon offering his condolences to the family of Sinclair.

“On behalf of all Canadians, Laureen and I offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Craftsman Kyle Sinclair.

“This incident is another painful reminder of the sacrifice that our brave men and women in uniform face daily in the defence of our nation’s freedoms and liberties, both at home and abroad.

“We will always remember and honour Craftsman Sinclair’s service to Canada.”

Defense Minister Rob Nicholson offered his condolences as well, and said in a statement, “The loss of any member of the Canadian Armed Forces is tragic. An investigation will be conducted into the circumstances surrounding this incident to ensure that every precaution is taken to protect the safety and security of our soldiers.”
