Allexis Siebrecht, 11, undergoing liver transplant in Toronto

An 11-year-old Winnipeg girl who is in desperate need of a liver transplant is in Toronto awaiting surgery, her family says.

She was admitted to Toronto’s Sick Kids Hospital on the weekend to get ready for a transplant after getting word about a donor.

The donor, a person in their 20′s was on life support. Those loved ones were given time to say their final goodbyes before the surgery.

A Siebrecht family spokesperson said on her facebook page that Allexis was taken into transplant surgery at 6:00 am and added the operation surgery is expected to take 8-12 hours.

Allexis Siebrecht was diagnosed with a rare liver disease when she was just three months old…this spring, we learned she needed a new liver within six months.

So far, almost $17,000 has been raised to help the family with expenses.
