Alberta Woman Dies at Boonstock Festival in Penticton

RCMP are saying a 24-year-old Leduc woman has died from a suspected drug overdose at the Boonstock Music Festival.

Paramedics responded to a report of an overdose just before midnight Friday and RCMP say the girl was rushed to hospital where she later died.

Cst. Kris Clark says that’s not the only overdose to take place. “Upon further investigation, police discovered two other people were in critical condition at the hospital as a result of drug overdoses. At least a dozen others had already been treated for drug overdose.”

Clark says RCMP is using all necessary resources to police the event. “We’re obviously very concerned about the public safety at this event. We feel there may be further deaths if attendees do not take steps to further safeguard their own health. We are asking all attendees to refrain from ingesting unknown substances.”

Boonstock had its liquor license denied because of security concerns.

Two weeks ago a young man from Regina was found dead in a tent at the Pemberton Music Festival.
