Alaa Al-Muhandis, Ontario woman killed in Istanbul attack

Alaa Al-Muhandis, 29, was one of the 39 people killed in the Reina nightclub attack in Turkey’s most populous city.

The married mother of two worked at looloo Auto Sales in Milton.

According to her Facebook profile, Al-Muhandis attended Seneca College. Previous to that, she was a student at Streetsville Secondary School in Mississauga.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed late Sunday night that a Canadian was among the dead.

“We mourn with the people of Turkey today and with all countries who lost citizens in this vicious attack,” Trudeau said in a statement.

“We also grieve the senseless loss of a Canadian citizen and remain steadfast in our determination to work with allies and partners to fight terrorism and hold perpetrators to account.”

Turkish officials say they have arrested eight suspects in their investigation, but they believe the lone gunman — whose image was caught on several CCTV cameras and at one point wearing a Santa Claus outfit — slipped away in the chaos following the shooting.
