Toronto : Fans hospitalised during Avicii’s gig

29 people have been hospitalised after falling ill at an AVICII show in Toronto last Saturday night. The Swedish DJ was playing to a full house at the 20,000 capacity Rogers Centre when, at around 10.30pm local time (30 mins before AVICII’s scheduled stage time) calls from the venue were made the emergency services claiming that various concertgoers had apparently “overdosed” on alcohol, according to Toronto Emergency Medical Services Commander Peter Rotolo.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) commander Peter Rotolo told CTV News, “Unfortunately we have a few kids… excessive alcohol and partying and they can’t handle it.”

Five people were said to be in a serious condition.

Despite the drama, the show went on as planned, with Avicii taking to Twitter.com after his set to thanks fans for a fun night.

He wrote, “Torontooooo! Every show ive had here in Canada has been amazing and tonight rly (really) meant a lot to me! Thank you for all your love and support!!”
