Fire In Burlington: Puppy rescued from burning motor home

Burlington, Vt. – The Burlington Fire Department rescued a puppy from an RV fire on Thursday.

At 3:53 p.m. Thursday, Burlington Fire Dispatch requested Engine 2 and Engine 1 to respond to a possible RV fire in the city’s Old North End.

The fire department said Engine 2 arrived two minutes later to find the RV parked with visible fire and a considerable amount of black smoke coming from the vehicle.

BFD personnel quickly extinguished the fire and began overhaul operations. During the overhaul phase, the owner of the RV arrived on scene and was able to confirm that there were no people in the vehicle, but that his puppy may have still been inside. Crews were able to coordinate a search of the vehicle and the puppy was located in the rear of the RV, hiding underneath a cabinet. The puppy was taken outside by the lieutenant of Engine 2 and brought to Engine 1 to be warmed.

The fire department said Rescue 2 responded to the scene to provide assessment and care to the dog who was ultimately found to be in good spirits and free from any airway compromise.

The puppy was reunited with his owners and BFD personnel wrapped up overhaul and investigation operations.

No injuries were reported during this incident and in total, BFD responded with two trucks, one rescue vehicle, one command vehicle and a total of nine personnel.

All units were clear of the scene shortly after 6 p.m.

The Red Cross said Thursday night that they are assisting two people displaced by the RV fire.
