Hamilton man arrested after bomb threat on GO Bus

A GO transit bus had to be evacuated this morning after a bomb threat on board.

According to Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins, the bus was travelling on Highway 407 near Britannia Road when a passenger approached the driver to inform them that there was a man on the bus claiming to be in possession of a bomb.

Ontario Provincial Police were called and, after a brief negotiation, approximately 20 passengers as well as the driver were safely allowed off the bus. Police continued to talk with the suspect who eventually surrendered peacefully.

OPP spokesperson Sgt. Kerry Schmidt would not say the suspect actually had an explosive device and no charges have been laid at this time.

No injuries were reported.
