Yosef Haim Ben-David: ‘Israeli killer of Palestinian teen’ convicted of murder

Yosef Haim Ben-David, 30, convicted for gruesome July 2014 murder of east Jerusalem Arab teenager ‎Muhammad Abu Khdeir‎ that helped spark Gaza war later that summer.

Prosecutors said Yosef Haim Ben-David was the mastermind behind the killing of 16-year-old Mohammed Abu Khudair, who was bludgeoned, strangled and burned alive in a gruesome killing the shocked the world.

Earlier two Jewish youths who helped Ben-David abduct the teen, were sentenced in February, with one facing life imprisonment and the other to a 21-year term.

According to Reuters, the three defendants had confessed and said the July 2, 2014 murder was revenge for the killing days earlier of three Israeli youths allegedly by the Hamas Islamist group in the occupied West Bank.

The Israeli Defence Ministry recognized Abu Khdeir as a victim of “hostile action”, granting his family the same compensation rights as the victims of Palestinian attacks, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the murder “despicable”.
