Lilly Wachowski: Second “Matrix” Director Comes Out as Transgender

The second half of the Wachowski sibling filmmaking duo has come out as transgender.

Lilly Wachowski, who was previously known as Andy Wachowski, is part of the directing duo with her sister Lana, who came out as transgender several years ago.

In a moving statement to the Windy City Media Group, Lilly explained that she was pushed to come out after being threatened by the tabloid media several times over the past year.

“In response to this threatened public outing against my will, I had a prepared a statement that was one part piss, one part vinegar and 12 parts gasoline,” she wrote.

Lilly went on to explain that a journalist from the Daily Mail turned up at her house this week so she could “have my picture taken and tell my story which was so inspirational”.

However, referencing a Daily Mail columnist’s criticism of a transgender schoolteacher, who later committed suicide, she decided not to give the paper an exclusive on her transition.

Lilly went on to say that she feels lucky “having the support of my family and the means to afford doctors and therapists has given me the chance to actually survive this process”, as others without such encouragement fall victim to the high transgender murder and suicide rate.

“And though we have come a long way since Silence of the Lambs, we continue to be demonised and vilified in the media where attack ads portray us as potential predators to keep us from even using the goddamn bathroom,” she continued.

“We are not predators, we are prey. So yeah, I’m transgender. And yeah, I’ve transitioned.”
