The possessions of an American family have been stolen in British Columbia before they made it to their new home in Alaska.

Anna Spencer and her five children were driving from Georgia State to Alaska – where Spencer’s military husband has been recently transferred to – when they checked themselves into a hotel room in the 36000 block of North Parallel Road Sunday night.

That night, police say a vehicle pulled up to the family’s U-Haul and 24 minutes later suspects drove off with the truck.

Inside was up to $100,000 worth of the family’s possessions.

“I wasn’t even here 12 hours and my 26-footer U-Haul truck with my four-bedroom house in it was stolen,” Spencer told Abbotsford Police in a video posted online. “My life, my children’s lives, our military gear … everything that we accumulated, they took everything. It took a lifetime to build what we had.”

Police say the stolen U-Haul was eventually found on Monday in a location in Surrey, but a significant number of items are still missing.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact them.
