Iraq mission has so far cost Canada $122 million, defence minister says

Canada’s air and ground mission battling Islamic State extremists in Iraq has cost $122 million so far, new figures show.

The estimated cost is for the full six-month mission, which began last October and will continue to mid-March.

“This week I will be tabling estimates in Parliament that will reflect the incremental costs for the Canadian military mission in Iraq. Estimated incremental costs to date are approximately $122 million,” Jason Kenney, Canada’s new defence minister, said in a statement released Monday.

“We have always committed to remain as open and transparent about this mission as possible, without compromising operational security.”

He added there would be “additional costs” if the government votes to extend Operation Impact.
