A woman who got stuck inside the chimney of her ex-boyfriend’s home had to be freed by firefighters.

The 35-year-old took off her clothes in the hope it would help her fit down the 12-by-12 inch wide chimney.

But halfway down she found she couldn’t move any more – and was forced to call for help at 5am.

Pictures taken by the fire brigade show the red-faced woman’s soot-covered, naked legs dangling in the chute moments before she was freed.

Inside the house was Tony Hernandez, the father of her three children, who said that his estranged wife had tried to get into his house shortly before 5am but found the door locked.

She then climbed on to the roof and tried to wriggle down the chimney but got wedged inside it in Woodcrest, California.

Mr Hernandez said he awoke to her cries for help and tried to get her out with an extension cord.

He said: “She called me and I said: ‘Where are you at?’ And she said: ‘I’m trapped in the chimney.’ So I tried to get her out from the top but it was too hard.”

Mr Hernandez tried to pull her out from the roof but nearly fell off so called 911.

Firemen broke open the fireplace and after a delicate two-hour operation got the woman free. Her identity has not been released.

Mr Hernandez said he did not want his wife to come near him or their children again and that the fireplace was expensive and needed to be replaced.

He said: “I don’t like the way she’s acting or what she’s doing. That’s not good for my kids.”
