Health Canada : Medical pot growers told to clean up ads

Health Canada has ordered Canada’s medical marijuana companies to stop making their products look so good.

Producers have until Jan. 12 to comply with the regulations, which prohibit photos or claims of medical benefits. The notice, issued Tuesday, comes after 20 of 22 licensed producers were warned about their advertising.

Licensed pot growers are only allowed to tell the public basic information, including a brand name, the proper or common name for the strain, price per gram, cannabinoid content and contact information for the company, Health Canada says.

Those who don’t follow the rules can be suspended or have their licences revoked.Health Canada sent out a bulletin in June to offer guidelines for producers.”Health Canada is especially concerned about advertisements of any kind which are false, misleading or deceptive and those which advertise marijuana in relation to particular therapeutic claims.
