A shooting sent terrified patrons scrambling from a Miami nightclub early Sunday and left 15 people wounded, including an 11-year-old child, authorities said.

The incident took place early Sunday morning at a nightclub called The Spot, located at Northwest 64th Street at Seventh Avenue.

The wounded people who were sent to nearby hospitals including Jackson Memorial Hospital were aged between 11 and 25, according Miami Police spokeswoman Frederica Burden.

Police still do not know why the shooting occurred and how many shooters were involved in it, she said.

“At this point, we are not sure if we have one shooter or multiple shooters,” Burden said, adding that investigators are still going from hospital to hospital to interview the witnesses.

The rescue crew said they found the victims both inside and outside the club.

Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said when the first rescue workers arrived at the scene they were told to be cautious because there “was still active shooting taking place in the area.”

Carroll added that five girls, ranging in age from 11 to 17, were among the wounded people.

Based on local media reports, around 100 shots were fired from around four different guns during the incident.
