An Edmonton man was airlifted to hospital Sunday night after he shot and killed a wounded black bear as the bear bit and tackled him.
Alberta Fish and Wildlife tell Global News that the man was attacked about 13 kilometres from Smoky Lake Sunday evening.
They say the man lawfully shot the bear and believing it was dead, started dragging it when the bear attacked him.
The Smoky Lake Fire Department said the man suffered bite marks and lacerations to his body.
He remains in stable condition in hospital.
Alberta Fish and Wildlife have confirmed that the bear has died.
