With extra protection on its breeding lakes, Alberta’s trumpeter swan population has recovered enough to be removed from the threatened species list.
But the bad news is four other species were added to the threatened list due to declining populations.
They are the Athabasca Rainbow Trout, Bull Trout, and Pygmy Whitefish. The Western Grebe has also been identified.
A recovery plan for each of the listed species will now be created.
