Burnaby : Man dies after being tasered by police

The Independent Investigations Office has investigators on scene in Burnaby after a man died after an altercation with RCMP.

Spokesperson Kellie Kilpatrick says police were called to an apartment building in the 69-hundred block of Walker Avenue near Kingsway and Edmonds shortly before 3:30pm.

“The male, according to police, was agitated and non-compliant with their demands. A CEW, also known as a Taser, was deployed, however was believed to be not effective. A physical struggle then took place, and at that time, while the male was being taken into custody, he became unresponsive.”

A police officer was also injured in the altercation.
