Thirteen arrested during ‘Day Without A Woman’ rally near Trump Tower

At least 13 people were arrested during the A Day Without a Woman rally outside of Trump International Hotel and Tower in Manhattan Wednesday afternoon, police said, as New Yorkers marked International Women’s Day at events around the city.

According to reports, about 1,000 people — many who were women dressed in red — congregated on Fifth Avenue outside Donald Trump’s Manhattan residence to demonstrate International Women’s Day.

At around 1:30 p.m. EST, the official account for the Women’s March, the organization behind Wednesday’s Day Without A Woman strike, posted that demonstrators were “blocking traffic as a form of civil disobedience.”

The protesters had planned on forming a wall around the hotel, but were arrested shortly after gathering in Columbus Circle. Many of the effort’s national organizers were among those arrested.

A rep for the organization said in a statement:

“Today, the national leaders of the Women’s March on Washington gathered with allies and those participating in the day’s actions for a show of solidarity and revolutionary love. After a peaceful protest in New York City in honor of A Day Without a Woman, 10 organizers were arrested by the New York City Police Department in an act of civil disobedience.”

So frustrating! But its gonna take a lot more than a few handcuffs to deter these fearless women on a mission for equality.
