Jim Broadbent joins Game of Thrones for season seven

Jim Broadbent has signed on to star in Season 7 of HBO’s Game of Thrones.

There is no word yet on who Broadbent will play on Game of Thrones, but HBO confirmed to EW that his role is “significant.”

Broadbent is a veteran British actor who played Horace Slughorn in the Harry Potter film series and won a Best Supporting Oscar for his part in the 2001 movie Iris.

As EW points out, Broadbent is not the first Harry Potter actor to land a role in Game of Thrones. Other examples include Natalia Tena, who played Tonks in Harry Potter and Osha in the HBO show, as well as Filch actor David Bradley, who played the role of Walder Frey on Game of Thrones. Ciaran Hinds portrayed Albus Dumbledore’s brother Aberforth and Mance Rayder in Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones Season 7 will premiere later than usual; rather than April, it’ll instead debut sometime during the summer of 2017. It’ll be shorter than past seasons, too, running only seven episodes. The first Season 7 teaser was released during San Diego Comic-Con and can be seen here.

Only one more season is planned after Season 7. This may not be end the of Game of Thrones altogether, however, as the show’s creators have talked about possible spinoffs.
