Quebec Health minister greets refugees at Montreal health clinic

Quebec Health Minister, Gaetan Barrette, spent Saturday afternoon touring a Syrian refugee health clinic set up in the emergency room of the former Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal.

The clinic has been open since mid-December, and Barrette says everyone will have full access to provincial health care. Patients are being provided with a variety of services, ranging from getting the flu shot to having access to psychological care.

Program administrator Julie Boutin says there could be a need for that kind of treatment because of the conflict in Syria as well as having to leave their homes. She adds that arrivals will be evaluated for possible cases of post-traumatic stress disorder.

The goal is to process at least 170 people per day.
