Kraft Heinz Layoffs: Company slashing 2500 jobs in US; Canada

Kraft Heinz on Wednesday said it will lay off 700 workers at Kraft’s corporate headquarters in north suburban Northfield, part of a cost-cutting plan that will slash the combined company’s head count in the U.S. and Canada by 2,500 jobs.

Michael Mullen, a spokesman for Kraft Heinz, said that the layoffs were being done to “ensure we are operating as efficiently and effectively as possible” and that it was a “very difficult, but necessary, decision.”

The cuts include getting rid of several hundred employees at Kraft headquarters in Illinois. That headquarters is planning on moving to a smaller location in Chicago while the Heinz side will likely continue to operate out of Pittsburgh.

According to its website, Kraft Heinz is now the third-largest food and beverage company in North America and the fifth-largest in the world. Both companies rake in more than $1 billion in sales every year.
