Another Westjet flight receives threat, lands in Saskatoon

Another WestJet flight — the third in the past week — has received a bomb threat.

WestJet reported its Toronto to Saskatoon flight received the threat late Tuesday evening.

WestJet stated on Twitter Tuesday that flight #WS323 operated on a 737-700 aircraft, which had 113 passengers and five crew members.

The plane landed just after 8 p.m., according to local police. It was held away from the terminal as a precaution.

Passengers and crew left the aircraft by stairs, and were loaded onto buses, WestJet said. They were taken to be interviewed by the Saskatoon Police Service, which is standard practice, police say.

No details regarding the threat were immediately available.
Saskatoon police have launched a criminal investigation into the threat, assisted by local fire and transit services, the airport authority and WestJet personnel.

This is the fourth incident involving a threat to a flight in the past week.

On Monday the WestJet flight from Edmonton to Toronto that diverted to Winnipeg saw six people injured getting off the plane, and taken to hospital for treatment.

On Saturday morning, a WestJet flight from Edmonton to Halifax landed in Saskatoon, after a false claim that an explosive device was on board.

On Thursday, St. John’s International Airport was closed due to a bomb threat on an Air Canada flight. The airport authority made the call after it was notified about a possible bomb on the flight from St. John’s to Ottawa as it was pulling back from the gate.

A note identified as a possible bomb threat was found in one of the plane’s washrooms, but nothing suspicious was found on board.
