50,000 bees removed from Ont. home (Video)

Beekeeper Dave Schuit is ripping apart drywall with a hammer and tearing out fibreglass insulation, taking apart a living room wall to gain access to a hive of about 50,000 honeybees.

Lousie Dawe wanted to find a way to remove the species while protecting them but no bee keeper would take on the task at the time. But today David Schuit is on hand to remove and re-colonize the hive. “We’re trying to save the hive, save the queen and find it a new home out of this home.”

Dave Schuit says that’s because pesticides aren’t allowed in the city he blames neonicotinoids for the dwindling population and wants them banned, “we save bees we’re saving humanity, because if there’s no bees, no pollinators, no food for humanity.”
