A homeless man with a heart of gold continues to make headlines on Vancouver Island for his generosity.

The story captured national attention and led to people across Canada donating more than four thousand dollars to a gofundme campaign for the finder. An RCMP constable spent days tracking down the homeless man who said thanks but no thanks to the reward.

Constable Craig Berube says the man was grateful for the generosity of strangers but doesn’t want the thousands of dollars raised for him. Instead he would like the money donated to a homeless food program run by Our Place or some other homeless organization.

Investigators asked him to sleep on his decision but the following day he signed letter asking that the money be donated adding that what he really wants is a job.

The owner of the lost money has come forward to claim his cash. A Victoria man who launched the gofundme drive is now spearheading the effort to find the good samaritan a job.
