Joss Whedon : Avengers Director Quits Twitter

Joss Whedon has quit Twitter, the filmmaker signed off from the social media service with two final messages to his 1.15 million followers.

“Now I may me down to sleep I pray the lord my soul to keep If I should die before I wake ‘kay,” he initially wrote in reference to the Avengers sequel finally being released.

A final tweet read: “Thank you to all the people who’ve been so kind and funny and inspiring up in here.”

Whedon has been criticised by some Avengers fans and critics for using Scarlett Johansson’s international spy Black Widow in a typical ‘damsel in distress’ role in a few key scenes late in Age of Ultron.

The filmmaker did not directly address the Black Widow backlash on Twitter before leaving the micro-blogging website.

The filmmaker had been lauded earlier in his career for creating strong central roles for female characters in shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly.

Whedon recently expressed reluctance in continuing working on Marvel movies in the immediate future, explaining that fatigue had set in from years of overseeing the company’s blockbusters.
