A man in his 40s has died after the car he was driving slammed into a hydro pole.

Peel police say that a car was travelling at approximately 190 kilometres an hour along Eglinton Avenue near Tomken Road when it struck a pole and split in half at around 12:30 a.m.

According to Const. Lilly Fitzpatrick, debris from the crash is spread out over a 700 metre field and officers are scouring the surrounding area to ensure no one else was ejected from the vehicle.
