IHIT investigates death of three-year-old girl in Surrey

Homicide investigators are probing the suspicious death of a three-year-old girl in Surrey.

IHIT spokeswoman Sgt. Stephanie Ashton said Surrey RCMP were first called Wednesday when the toddler was rushed to hospital from a home in the 5800 block 182nd Street.

“The child has now succumbed to injuries which led to the initial call for medical assistance,” Ashton said in a statement. “Any time we investigate a suspicious death we treat it very seriously, (and) we ask that the public keep in mind a child has died and her family is now dealing with that death.”

Ashton says IHIT is working with Surrey RCMP to determine what caused the death.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-4448, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or to email [email protected].
