Mary Ann Estanislao : Edmonton woman wins $15 million lotto

One of Edmonton’s latest lottery winners stresses it takes just one ticket to win — and in her case, that single ticket led to a $15-million jackpot.

“I only ever buy one ticket,” said Edmonton resident Mary Ann Estanislao. “I believe that if you’re meant to win, you only need one.”

Estanislao’s one ticket turned out to be the only ticket sold across Canada to match all seven winning Lotto Max numbers on Oct. 24, 2014 — awarding her with a cool $15 million.

But her win may also have to do with her raw optimism.

“I often talk about all the things I’d do if I ever won the lotto,” she said in a news release. “So when I asked my daughter to sit down because I had something to tell her, she asked right away, ‘Did you win the lottery?’”

Estanislao’s said she will use the money pay off her mortgage and bills and travel while she considers a number of charitable causes.
