Saskatchewan Mountie charged with trafficking cocaine, ecstasy: RCMP

A 31-year-old Saskatchewan RCMP constable has been suspended and accused of dealing cocaine and ecstasy.

Const. Michael Chachula, 31, was arrested Monday in Swift Current, and is now facing one count each of trafficking cocaine and ecstasy. He has been with the RCMP for seven years, including serving at the Swift Current rural detachment since 2012.

Police report they began an investigation after getting a complaint against Chachula in April, 2014. They brought in the Moose Jaw Police Service to investigate.

While the initial complaint wasn’t related to narcotics, the Moose Jaw police’s investigation uncovered evidence linking Chachula to drugs. RCMP opted to investigate that evidence themselves due to the equipment and expertise needed.

They began their investigation in October, 2014. Chachula was charged and suspended. In addition to the criminal charges, Chachula is also being investigated for breaching the RCMP’s code of conduct.

Chachula is due to appear in court in Swift Current Feb. 18.
