2 people fall 100 feet to death while working on Ohio water tower

Two people have died after falling off a water tower in Reily Township.

It happened in the 3500 block of Oxford-Riley Road around 7p.m. Friday, Oct. 24. Investigators with OSHA and the Butler County Investigators were on the scene until late into the night.

Lambert said scaffolding the painters were using failed. One worker died at the scene, and a second died while being loaded onto an Air Care helicopter, according to the sheriff’s office.

The identities of those killed were not released Saturday, and family members at the scene declined comment.

The 150-foot tall water tower is owned by the Southwest Regional Water District. The workers were contracted through Farmington Hills, Mich.-based V&T Painting LLC, for the Southwest Regional Water District.

Authorities said the workers were painting the water tower for about a week, according to our news partner WCPO 9 On Your Side.
