September’s two-day Selective Traffic Enforcement Program event took place in Melfort on Sept. 17 and 18. Police officers from around the province assembled to enforce all traffic safety violations, with a particular focus on seatbelts, cellphones, aggressive driving and impaired driving.

They issued a total of 156 tickets, including: ?77 tickets for improper or non-seatbelt use; 27 tickets for aggressive driving/speeding; 13 tickets for cellphone use while driving; three tickets for speeding in a school zone; and 36 other tickets

To help ensure the proper use of child restraints and raise awareness about the importance of child passenger safety, SGI car seat technicians also participated in the STEP event. They checked 84 child restraints during the check stops and gave away nine car/booster seats.
