Ikey Owens’ cause of death revealed, Report

A day after Long Beach music legend Isaiah “Ikey” Owens was found dead in a hotel in Mexico, the official website for Jack White, with whom Owens was touring, posted an update saying the 38-year-old keyboardist died of a heart attack.

The coroner has determined that Ikey Owens died from a heart attack the morning of October 14 at approximately 4 am. The only drugs found in his room were a small amount of marijuana.

Ikey, born Isaiah Randolph Owens, was a GRAMMY award-winning artist best known for his work with Jack White, the Mars Volta, De Facto and Free Moral Agents, among others. He was a beloved member of the music community as well as his hometown of Long Beach, CA.

In the wake of Owens’ death, Jack White and his band canceled the two remaining dates on their tour through Mexico. After years with The Mars Volta, Owens joined Jack White’s touring lineup in 2012. In addition to his work on the road with White, Owens played the Fender Rhodes, the Hammond B3, keyboards, moog synthesizer and piano on White’s 2014 album, ‘Lazaretto.’
