Charlotte Mom arrested after son takes part in ‘Fire Challenge’

A Charlotte woman has been arrested after she is accused of allowing her teenage son to take part in a “fire challenge” that recently became popular on social media.

Several media outlets reported that 41-year-old Janie Lachelle Talley has been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detectives say Talley’s 16-year-old son poured fingernail polish on himself on July 29 and set himself on fire. The police statement said Talley was present at the time and helped with the video recording.

Other people put out the fire. The teen suffered minor burns to his chest and neck.

Someone notified the Department of Social Services about the incident and police began investigating.

It was not clear if she has an attorney.
